The Hoi An Communal House, also named Ong Voi Communal House (Giant Elephant House), is well known for its being holy and sacred.
Address: 14 Tran Phu St.,
This communal house is considered as the religious architecture of Minh Huong People - Chinese people obtained Vietnamese citizenship in order to worship heroic ancestors.
Each village in Hoi An has a communal house for the common use of the whole village. The main part of the communal house is a rectangular building (with two auxiliary wings on its left and right sides) dedicated to the God and important Founders of the village. This main building always has a four-side roof of yin-yang tile.
The Xuan My traditional handicraft village was formed in XVII, XVIII centuries for producing lime, art objects such as horn comb and hair-pin. The Xuan My Communal house was built in the end of XVII century and was restored in 1903 by the contribution of Xuan My traditional handicraftmen. This communal house includes temple of 6 deities, stele house with surrounding landscape of banyan tree and river wharf. Through the formation and development of the Xuan My traditional village, we also obtain information on the process of settlement and the development of traditional handicraft villages in surrounding areas of former Hoi An trading port.
Cam Pho communal house was built rather early and restored in 1817.
